How To Make a Punch Art Spider From An Owl Punch

Last year I spent the entire month of October creating different punch art pieces using the OWL PUNCH, that’s right 31 straight days of different punch art pieces- it was awesome!!  I was thrilled to be able to recreate one of my most popular pieces for this weeks sketch challenge over at Hand Stamped Sentiments- which is a SUPER fun sketch.

It’s time for a little spider spooky punch art tutorial… who’s ready?!

This is the completed card, I know… the spider web embossing folder is no longer available, BUT you will have to pry this baby out of my cold dead hands… cause it’s awesome sauce and I will never get rid of it!!  It’s the perfect embellishment to this (or any other spooky card for that matter) spooky card!  Can you see what I did to the web??

This is the sketch that we were to recreate for this months sketch challenge, it’s super FUN and can be recreated with any theme.  I am in a total Halloween mode currently… I have spookiness on the brain! You HAVE to pop over and play along with us at Hand Stamped Sentiments, it’s so much fun and really pushes you to be creative within your own talents.  It’s SO much fun!!

How to create a punch art spider using the Owl Punch

STEP 1- First you are going to start out with a 1″ circle punch, Owl Punch, and large square punch.  You will cut away the ears from the owl because they won’t be needed.  Then, although it’s noted here you will want to wait until ALL your pieces are cut out, sponge the edges of all the pieces with white craft ink.

STEP 2- here is how you create the legs, first take your square punch and punch out a small portion of the black card stock like shown in the far left photo, then move the punch up slightly to get a thin strip of black card stock showing, like in the far right photo.  When you punch it out it will look like the bottom photo, you repeat this 6 times to create 6 legs, if you continue to move up each time you punch then you will end up with larger and larger pieces which works great for the different sizes for the spider.

STEP 3- Place some glue on the head portion of the owl punch, and secure the 1″ circle shape there.  Then lay your legs out the way you want them to look, place a small dot of glue on each of the ends, then press your spider body down on the legs to secure them to the body.

Then when you have it completely assembled you will add the face.  I adhered some googlie eyes and drew on a mouth using my singo gel pen- super easy and stinkin’ cute!!!
