HSS Technique Challenge 7

Good Morning Stampers, now that I have fully recovered from my bout with a nasty stomach virus I am ready to go!!! This weeks challenge is a technique, one of my FAV’s, Faux Metal!
This is a simple technique that packs a punch, you can see further details and step by step instructions over at Hand Stamped Sentiments, check it out and play along!
So I chose a really simple card layout, one I have actually used before because I wanted the metal tag to be the focus. I used Kraft card stock as my card base, Designer Series Paper (the one I am using is a retired SAB pack), Summer Sun card stock for the belly band, and then Kraft and Going Grey card stock for my Faux Metal pieces.
I used copper Embossing Powder for the scallop medallion. I covered a Kraft piece of card stock with a nice thick layer of VersaMark Ink and then covered it with the embossing powder, heated it with my heat tool and repeated that step to make the melted embossing powder nice and thick. Then stamped my image in the VersaMark Ink and while the thick layer of melted Embossing Powder was still warm I impressed my stamped image into the warm card stock. The image comes out clean and dries in an instant almost.
You can see a better view of the ridges from the side. I repeated that same step from above to create the center piece, simply using a darker color card stock and Silver Embossing Powder. I used the Vintage Labels set from the Sale-A-Bration catalog, HURRY those items are only available for another few weeks…SAB ends March 31st!!

I used my round scallop punch to punch out the medallion and used my 3/4″ circle punch to get the center phrase part for my medallion. I attached them to each other using a dimensional and then using dimensionals again I attached the entire piece to the card front.

I hope you enjoyed today’s simple but elegant card, I came up with another idea using this same technique last night and can’t wait to try it…stay tuned for that project. :) Come on over to HSS and play along, can’t wait to see what you create!

  1. Erin,

I love the medallion on your card! It’s so regal and elegant. I’ll need to try this and see if it comes out as good as yours. I couldn’t think of what stamp set to use for my card so ended up using my embossing folder.

  2. I was going to use the same set for the challenge. Glad I saw yours first. So simple and clean. Love it!

We Love to Hear From You
