HSS Fancy Fold Creative Challenge #78

Good Morning Stampers!!! I am LOVING this weeks Hand Stamped Sentiments Challenge– it’s all about the FOLDS and I’m not talking laundry *smirk*… I am working on a BUNCH of different cards for a class just for all different kinds of FANCY FOLDS!!! It will be a doozie, I am loving preparing for this class too. So this week at HSS we are making all kinds of FANCY FOLD cards- FUN!!!! Hop on over and submit YOUR fancy creation TODAY!!

So here is what I made. I was going through my drawers on Saturday after preparing another class idea with my friend and fellow demo Genny and I came across this OLD hostess set that I had in a storage drawer that I haven’t opened in FOREVER- it’s like finding money in your pocket when you are doing laundry. So I blew off the dust and broke out the rubbah… aaaahhhhhhh
I decided to make a buckle card for this challenge and i used some new and newer colors that I thought were FUN and reminded me of my school days (hello neon). So I used Melon Mambo, Lucky Limeade, Whisper White and Basic Black- I have to admit that the ribbon is contraband BUT scalloped black ribbon would look PERFECT there instead.

I love how this card opens and closes and the peek of design that works it’s way into the inside of the card. This is SUCH a FUN and easy card to make- you have to try it for yourself. Here is a brief instructional:

1. take a regular sized card base 5.5 x 8.5 and score it in half at 4.25″, then trim off about an 1.5″ to 2″ from the top layer and round the corners of your top layer.
2. Using the window word punch make a slot on the front of your card base, where your buckle will feed into.
3. Take your buckle, sized at 4.75″ x 1.5″, for the bottom portion of the buckle and you will score that portion at 1/2″ on one end- that is the side that you secure under the back of the card portion. I then cut another portion to layer on top of the buckle to coordinate with the inside of my card.
4. You will then take your buckle at the score and line up the score line with the outside edge of your card back and adhere the 1/2″ flap to the inside of the back of the card.
5. Layer you inside inserts on top of the buckle flap, these layers measure roughly 4″ x 5.25″ and then 3.75″ x 5″
6. Then you can simply feed your buckle into your punched slot to close the card. EASY PEASY!!!

Here is a shot of the card opened and a shot of how I detailed the inside of the card. I had so much fun making this card, I love how easy this card was to create as well. I loved how I was able to spend most of my creative juices on the colors and design of the stamps than having to slave over the construction of the card itself. LOVE THAT!!!

I hope you enjoyed this weeks card for the HSS FANCY FOLD CHALLENGE– what a FUN and creatively open challenge. I can’t wait to see what you create, I know it will be inspiring. I am excited to share with you the upcoming class samples and teasers for the August classes, they are going to be FUN and amazingly creative! I hope you jump over to HSS and get crafty, I can’t wait to see what you have to share. Thanks so much for stopping by and until next time~

  3. I used to have that set, I’ve forgotten what it was named. Cute card and great colors. Loved your laundry joke too. So nice to be referring to crafting than laundry when mentioning folds:)

  4. Super cute! I had totally forgotten about this fold. Thanks for the reminder.

  5. Erin,
I’ve never made this type of card. I’ll have to make one. I love the buckle detail and I also love your bright color combo. I too love that this type of card gives the recipient a peek of what’s inside. Fab card!

  6. This punts the fun in fancy folding, Erin! That color combo is so bright and summery, too. You make me laugh so hard with your posts…wonder what other stampin treasures you have hidden in those storage drawers. Haha! Awesome card design! Can’t wait to give it a try! :)
