WOW, I have SO much to share today… my Hawaii Swap card layout, and some rough drafts, and I have the NEW 2015-17 In-Colors to show you too!! OMG!! You are going to LOVE these new colors!! I have been working so hard on getting ready for next week, tying up loose ends… putting out fires… and of course ordering my SNEAK PEEK products from the NEW Annual Catalog! So first up, I want to show you the first version of my swap… I basically knew I wanted to create some kind of shaker, use a LOT of glitter and create my OWN sequin type of embellishment…
So I had A LOT going on with this card… I used a variety of colors for the stamped background (which are a dot image from the KINDA ECLECTIC set). I knew I wanted to create some kind of die cut sentiment word window for my shaker portion… and I had colored some window sheets with Sharpies and punched out a TON of star confetti…. but this was SOOOOOO busy to me it made me think of mud…. So I tried again… and again… and again…
My 3rd attempt at this template looked like this-
Smaller frame, smaller word, fewer colors on the background, larger images, lots of color in the sequin… but I still wasn’t in love with it. For me there was still a lot going on. The hardest thing for me when it comes to swaps- is coming to terms with myself that my style, my personal preference is enough. I love simple cards, cards that have a sense of POP to it, which usually means there isn’t a ton going on. Of course I am always worried that there won’t be enough for others… but then I have to step back and talk myself off the ledge.
This is why people participate in swaps, they want ideas and samples of things that they wouldn’t normally make themselves, to get a variety. So I tweaked my swap a little bit more, and created this… (using the circle framelits and Hello You Thinlits)
There was just enough bling, LOTS of sparkle and a few simple embellishments. I still have a shaker going on, but I used plain window sheets, uncolored and it looks awesome in the light. That is the one thing that these photos don’t capture, and that’s how shimmery it is. There are strips of DAZZLING DETAILS all along the starburst images (also from the KINDA ECLECTIC set) and then the way the light hits the sequin and then I finished off the front with a mini strip of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper. Check it out-
I am SO pleased with the end result, these are cards that people will recognize as mine! I love bright and cheery cards that have an element of POP to them, and that’s exactly what these swap say to me. I am finally over the hump with my prep for Hawaii and now that all my swaps are complete I can actually relax a little and get ready to plan my Catalog Kickoff!!
Speaking of which, I will be showcasing these babies at my event… I know this is not the best pic of the new colors, but I can’t wait to share these babies with you. I took a screen shot from the Catalog Reveal that all Demo’s got to see on the 21st! Just another perk for Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators
I posted a teaser of these on my Instagram and Facebook pages last night… if you don’t follow me there you are missing out! These colors are SOOOOOO yummy, and Stampin’ Up! is seriously SPOT ON when it comes to knowing the trends. The color names are (from the top/left to right) Mint Macaron (yep, that’s how they spelled it), Tip-Top Taupe, Watermelon Wonder, Cucumber Crush, Delightful Dijon. Oh they are SO beautiful in real life. I actually have them in hand and can attest to that!! You will absolutely want to make it to my CATALOG KICKOFF event, and honestly… when you come to any of my local classes this month you will get to see sneak peek samples of the projects we are making at the Kickoff!!
