I have been doing so many Christmas and holiday themed projects this month that I really was itching to create something OTHER than a holiday project. I get asked all the time “How do I come up with the card ideas that I make?”  Honestly what it comes down to is a simple recipe… I select a color combo, a sketch, and decide on a theme (like a birthday or sympathy theme).  Once I have those three things I can crank out a card fairly simply.  Let me show you what I mean…

A little sparkle always adds a little KICK to your project.

So first I went with a color scheme, that I picked off the Pals Paper Arts challenge blog.  The colors given were Elegant Eggplant, Grey and Very Vanilla. I personally prefer the starkness and pop of clean crisp WHITE, so I did a small substitution… I used Eggplant, Brushed Silver and White!  I LOVE SPARKLE and SHINE!!

I love me some silver paper, but I had to kick it up even higher with MORE sparkle… I know it’s a problem.  So I decided to apply a little MORE sparkle here and there over top the brushed silver to accentuate certain parts of the card, like the little hearts and the raised embossed portions of the the silver paper.  I took this sketch from a challenge that I was supposed to complete next week… but I got my dates all messed up, LOL!! I will have to make another, oh darn…

Just a few colors help make a card project less overwhelming.

I thought that adding a little POP with the soda can flags would add a little dimension to the card, but if you wanted a more simple style then you could leave that part off and it would still be super cute!  Some simple things like embossing the little paper layers allows you to add a little texture and variation to you card with very little effort- it is a great addition.

  1. That is an awesome card!! and a change from the Holidays. Christmas is coming and so much is put on the worldly things and not what it actually means. So this card is a change. But can you please put a list of what you used to make this card. What stamps etc??? Thanks And have a very Merry Christmas!!
