How Can You Take A Card From Simple To Wow? Here’s How…

I had a few moments to create a quick and simple card today, I admit it there was a purpose in mind- It’s TUESDAY which means it’s time for a NEW Challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments!! I think one of my most favorite things (aside from rhinestones and glitter) is being able to take a simple card to a WOW card.  Granted, for me it doesn’t take much for it to become a WOW… but honestly that is the case for most people as well.

I created this simple and unconventional card for today’s project, and of course I utilized a sketch and color scheme to make the process SO much easier.  I think it’s almost a handicap at this point, I rarely create something with out a plan or sketch in mind.

Learn how to take a simple card to WOW with just a few steps.

Taking a card to a higher level doesn’t require a lot…

Like I mentioned I used a few helpers to make this project so much easier.  I used the color scheme from Hand Stamped Sentiments and the sketch from Mojo Monday.

Using a color challenge pallete can help minimize the stress of creating a card or project, and makes you skinnier as well.

Having a color scheme helps speed up the process of creativity.

I don't always create cards but when I do I always use a sketch.

Sketches always help me with a jumping off point.

I find that I don’t always follow the sketch exactly but it really does give me the inspiration kick that I often need when I go to create class projects or creations.  I followed this sketch pretty true to form, but I rarely do that- in fact that is what I find so challenging… now that I have been using them for so long they are usually just jumping off points for me rather than literal templates.

see what shapes and layers you can alter based off of a sketch, challenge yourself.

Using elements of a card design as interpretations of your sketch is a fun way to challenge yourself.

I used the sentiment for this card as the thin strip layer shown in the sketch… I also felt that the embossing pattern of the base layer was interest enough and opted not to add ribbon or anything else.

Get creative with your embellishments, alter them.

Altering embellishments is also an easy way to take your card up a notch.

I decided that my heart needed some love letters on it, so I embossed that as well with a retired embossing folder.  I think adding texture to your elements with embossing folders really does make them look more interesting and turns them into a real WOW card so easily.  I used the SCALLOP TEXTURE folder for the background, and the SCALLOP TAG TOPPER PUNCH layer was embossed using the exclusive SALE-A-BRATION folder.  Of course the one thing that I always add that makes any card a WOW is anything shiny!!  I chose to use DAZZLING DETAILS on my raised embossed areas and covered my MIDNIGHT MUSE DAHLIA with it as well… that little baby will have some sparkle to it, AWESOME-SAUCE!!
