HSS Anythihng BUT a Card Challenge 9

Morning Stampers, ready for a 3-D project? Over at Hand Stamped Sentiments we are doing an Anything But a Card Challenge, come play along as well! Of course these are my favorite kinds of projects... so lets take a look-

I made a card organizer using my Forget-Me-Not box... These are super fun and easy to make and can be customized to match the decor in your crafting space as well. I made another one with the Baroque pattern also. The great thing about this box is that it is sturdy and solid and snaps together in a second, which makes it easy for decorating!

I created a little display label and embellished it with the small heart from the Triple Heart Punch. I also decorated the sides of the box using Designer Series Paper. I will be offering this project in an upcoming class and will share more details then.

I thread some 5/8" Celery Grosgrain & 1/4" Pumpkin Grosgrain Ribbon through the front and knotted it for a fun burst of color.

I can't say it enough but I LOVE textured card stock, can you see the heart and the bit of texture the embellishment adds by having the bumps and valleys... LOVE IT!!!

Here is what the inside looks like, it literally took me 5 minuets to put the box together. The next one I am creating has an adorable card stock embellishment around the front instead of ribbon.

The exterior sides are this beautiful patterned only orange Designer Series Paper. It coordinates so well with the front flaps having that fun floral pattern.

These are the calendar inserts I made for the card organizer. There are 12 hard plastic dividers for the box and I attached these calendars to them using large glue dots. My cousin Shannon also created these calendars for her box as well, she has a much more steady hand than I...

I can write the individuals names on the date of their event and pull out the calendar and have the cards needed for each event behind the divider, so I am ALWAYS prepared! I have enough birthday, anniversary, holiday, and graduation cards at my finger tips.

Here is the project for the next class I have scheduled for April, Adorable Organized File Folder Class. I thought this would be a cute gift item for that special lady on that special lady day... You can find even MORE INFO on this class by clicking HERE.

Can you believe that you make this adorable note pad holder out of a single decorative file folder?? Yep, it's true!

This is what the finished product looks like, and these are super easy to make and pack such a WOW punch for that person receiving it. They will think you spent all day making it.

The best part is that it will easily fit into most average size handbags and even in your glove box for all those times that you need pen & paper...but come on- who is going to pack this beautiful gift away in their glove box??

HSS Sketch Challenge Wk 8

Are you ready?!!! It is time again for a CHALLENGE, and I am ready for it. I loved making this card for the HSS Sketch Challenge for today...come on over take a look at all the inspiration and play along yourself!
Here is the card I made, yep- pretty literal based on the sketch we used from the April Stampin' Success Magazine. I loved this card so much we are re-creating it for a class I am holding in April...check out my Class Page (you can find it just under the header at the top of the blog)

I started by making a patchwork top note die shape. I took a piece of scrap card stock slightly larger than the shape I was using and then cut a bunch of 1"x1" pieces of Designer Series Paper and adhered them to the scratch card stock. I flipped it so the Designer Paper was facing the die and ran it through my Big Shot...but when I placed it on my card I thought it was a little too bright and busy.

So I thought I would tone it down with a piece of vellum card stock placed over it cut to the same shape. That fixed it, I got the look I wanted and it was a more muted toned down version of what I wanted. I just didn't want it to compete to badly with the rest of the elements of the card.

Then I decided to use the flowers from the Blooms Die Cuts package. This product is super cool, you get 4 pages of all different sizes and shapes of flowers and flower parts. The pages come in Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, Real Red, and Bashful Blue. I used something from each of the pages.

I made slits near the petals to make them a little longer and it also allowed me the ability to flex and shape them. I cut the Olive flower up to make 3 leaves for the flower, which you can see on the finished product.

I used the smaller metal portion of my stylus to round the very tips of the leaves. I attached the leaves to the flower using large glue dots to the under portion of the flower. Then I stamped my sentiment using the Holiday Blitz stamp set, man I LOVE that set- so versatile. I used Staz-on Ink since I was stamping on vellum and that doesn't absorb the classic ink as well.
I added a large Designer Brad in the middle as well, using my crop-a-dile tool to create the hole large enough in the center to accommodate that brad. I really added a lot of height to this card also. I have 2 dimensionals- one on top of the other- under the Bashful Blue center piece. Then I have 3 more stacked under the base of the flower as well. This is defiantly a card that needs to be handed to someone and not mailed.

You can see the height I have better here from the side...

Well I hope you enjoyed today's project and PLEASE come play along with us over at Hand Stamped Sentiments...you will have fun- I promise!! Thanks so much for looking and check out my upcoming classes and events and until next time~ TTFN

HSS Technique Challenge 7

Good Morning Stampers, now that I have fully recovered from my bout with a nasty stomach virus I am ready to go!!! This weeks challenge is a technique, one of my FAV's, Faux Metal!
This is a simple technique that packs a punch, you can see further details and step by step instructions over at Hand Stamped Sentiments, check it out and play along!
So I chose a really simple card layout, one I have actually used before because I wanted the metal tag to be the focus. I used Kraft card stock as my card base, Designer Series Paper (the one I am using is a retired SAB pack), Summer Sun card stock for the belly band, and then Kraft and Going Grey card stock for my Faux Metal pieces.
I used copper Embossing Powder for the scallop medallion. I covered a Kraft piece of card stock with a nice thick layer of VersaMark Ink and then covered it with the embossing powder, heated it with my heat tool and repeated that step to make the melted embossing powder nice and thick. Then stamped my image in the VersaMark Ink and while the thick layer of melted Embossing Powder was still warm I impressed my stamped image into the warm card stock. The image comes out clean and dries in an instant almost.
You can see a better view of the ridges from the side. I repeated that same step from above to create the center piece, simply using a darker color card stock and Silver Embossing Powder. I used the Vintage Labels set from the Sale-A-Bration catalog, HURRY those items are only available for another few weeks...SAB ends March 31st!!

I used my round scallop punch to punch out the medallion and used my 3/4" circle punch to get the center phrase part for my medallion. I attached them to each other using a dimensional and then using dimensionals again I attached the entire piece to the card front.

I hope you enjoyed today's simple but elegant card, I came up with another idea using this same technique last night and can't wait to try it...stay tuned for that project. :) Come on over to HSS and play along, can't wait to see what you create!

HSS Inspiration Challenge 6

Good Morning Stampers! I am so thrilled with this weeks Inspiration for the Hand Stamped Sentiments Inspiration Challenge. I thought not only is it such a beautiful picture which makes me LONG for spring and ultimately SUMMER and days by the pool. I thought the color palette was perfect for a St. Patty's Day card.

Unfortunately today I won't have a ton of detail, I am fighting a cold that came on yesterday- and I don't feel so hot. I promise that I will add details and product info tomorrow in hopes that I am feeling much better. Here we go and I hope you enjoy.

This simple design I think is so classic and festive. I used Holiday Blitz stamp set, which is one of my FAVS!!! Every holiday is in that set, and they are super cute images.

I used Kraft card stock for my base and added texture by scoring a crosshatch pattern using my paper cutter and stylus. I used Very Vanilla card stock for the stamped images and Soft Suede card stock for the accent piece below punched with the spiral punch.

I used Old Olive (stamped twice to give a darker and lighter image), Certainly Celery, Summer Sun (stamped twice for two tones), then used the Crushed Curry Stampin' Write Marker to write the sentiment on the card. Then I used So Saffron 5/8" grosgrain ribbon layered under neither the Old Olive Taffeta ribbon.

Here is a close up of the texture I created, and then accented with my white gel pen in the centers.

I also went over the center spots in the image with the gel pen so they were more visible. Stamping light colored images on the vanilla card stock can make small details harder to see, but the gel pen works great for touching those up.

I hope you enjoyed today's project and stay tuned for additional details in the next day or two. Thanks for stopping by and be sure to head over to Hand Stamped Sentiments to play along, and until next time~ TTFN

HSS Color Splash Challenge 5 & MORE!!

GOOD MORNING STAMPERS!!
So sorry for the delay in getting things up today...it's been a few of the craziest days here in my home but I am thankful for each and every one of them! So onto our project for today, this one I admit was a serious challenge for me. Check out all the details over at Hand Stamped Sentiments, and check out the FREE GOODIES that they are giving away too!!!
Today the challenge uses some colors that I had to think hard in order to make this card. I had the design in my head and knew that I wanted to do something with sewing with Taffeta ribbon but it was definitely a challenge for me. :)

I started out with using Glorious Green as the card base, then layered it with a 4"x5.25" piece of Old Olive card stock. I added some texture to the card by scoring/dry embossing the stripped pattern to the card stock before layering it to the card base.

I then took a 2.25"x2.25" piece of Brilliant Blue card stock and used that as a mat for the center piece of Bashful Blue card stock. I used my Cutter Kit to rough up the edges of my center piece to add even a bit more of texture to the card.

I made this flower the first time at a Stampin' Up! Regional event here in San Antonio almost 2 years ago, and we made these flowers with Taffeta Ribbon and I thought it was so simple and beautiful. I used the Crop-A-Dile to create the holes I needed for the ribbon to run through. I will show you in a bit more detail how I made the template for the design in a minute.

Here you can see that I added a dimensional to the 3/4" circle punch of Kiwi Kiss card stock that is mounted to the back of the Bashful Blue flower button from the Sherbet Designer Button Pack. This gives some height to the center of the flower so that it all POPs a little more than normal.

Here you can see how I made the template for my flower design. I used the eyelet template that comes in the Mat Pack to make my design. I used the circles that made a diamond shape first, then rotated the template and ran the dotted lines over the center of the circles I had traced onto the card stock and then repeated the diamond shape again to give me a evenly circular look to my flower. I traced out the center circle and then skipped one (moving outward) and then traced the third circle moving outward from the inside of the flower.

I used my Not Quite Navy Stampin' Write Marker to color my White Taffeta Ribbon for my flower. Give it a few minutes to dry and then feed the ribbon through your holes of the template you create. You do have to fidget with the ribbon a bit each time to get the ribbon to lay properly for the "petal look".

I hope you enjoyed this weeks challenge project. I would love to see you give it a try as well, head over to Hand Stamped Sentiments and submit your project this week. Have fun and thanks so much for stopping by, and until next time~ TTFN
